IMS: Infomercial Monitoring Service, Inc.

Ever wonder how TV Overstocks comes up with their 'top products'? Close watch is kept on lists, reviews, and rankings. One company that is observed is Infomercial Monitoring Service, Inc. which publishes weekly and monthly rankings about spot activity and products that are being shown on national cable and satellite television.

Founder of IMS, Sam Cantanese, first started monitoring infomercials in 1984 and published their first reports in 1993. Needless to say, they have been in the business since the very early stages of infomercials.

IMS tracks over 25,000 hours of paid television programming a month; and records over 40 networks, 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week. Rankings include National Cable Rankings for both frequency and media. The Frequency Ranking is a count of the number of times a program airs on stations. The Indexed Media Ranking is derived from accumulated gross media rates per half hour show depending on when and where it aired each week.

All of IMS' extensive research and monitoring helps products gain recognition, as well as help sites, such as TV Overstocks, rank the best and popular weekly and monthly products.
